Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Abstract Hotel (“Abstract”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects your personal information when you use abstracthotel.co.nz, make an enquiry or booking, or subscribe to our emails. Abstract Hotel is at 8 Upper Queen Street, Auckland 1010, New Zealand. We handle personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

Our restaurant, Alla Prossima, and our spa, Sa-Ni, have their own websites. This policy covers abstracthotel.co.nz only; those sites may have their own privacy policies.

Information you give us. When you use our contact, Plan Your Stay or events enquiry forms we collect your name, email address and message, plus any details you add such as the subject of your enquiry, the event space you are interested in, your event date and your guest count. If you subscribe to our emails we collect your email address and, optionally, your first name.

Bookings and payments. Room and package bookings are made through our booking engine, Swiftbook, and gift vouchers through our voucher provider. These providers collect the details needed to make the booking or voucher purchase, including payment details. Card details are handled by our payment provider and are not stored on this website.

Information collected automatically. When you visit, we and our service providers collect technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, how you arrived at the site, and the links you click (for example, our Book Now buttons). This is collected using cookies and similar technologies (see “Cookies and analytics” below).

We use your information to respond to your enquiries and bookings; to send booking confirmations and enquiry receipts; to send you news, offers and city guides if you have subscribed (you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email); to understand how our website is used and improve it; to measure and improve our advertising; to keep the website secure and prevent spam; and to meet our legal obligations.

We use Google Tag Manager to load analytics and advertising tags. These include Google Analytics (website traffic and booking-button clicks), the Meta (Facebook and Instagram) Pixel, and the TikTok Pixel. These tools use cookies and similar technologies to recognise your browser, measure visits and show you relevant advertising on those platforms. They may share information about your visit with Google, Meta and TikTok.

To help us understand where bookings come from, a visitor identifier may be passed from this website to our booking engine when you click a booking link.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, use your browser’s privacy features, or opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser add-on. You can also manage advertising preferences in your Google, Meta and TikTok accounts. Blocking cookies will not stop you using the website.

Our forms use a privacy-friendly spam check (Altcha) that confirms you are a person without tracking you or setting advertising cookies.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the hotel and website, and only as needed for those services. These include: Amazon Web Services (website hosting, enquiry storage and the email delivery of enquiry confirmations); Swiftbook (online bookings); our payment provider (card payments); our gift voucher provider; Mailchimp (email newsletters); Google (analytics, fonts and maps); Meta and TikTok (advertising measurement); and, for spa bookings, Timely.

Enquiries you send us may also be shared within the Abstract group, for example with Alla Prossima or Sa-Ni, where your enquiry relates to dining or spa services.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect our rights, property or safety.

Some of our service providers store or process information outside New Zealand, including in Australia and the United States. Enquiries submitted through this website are stored with Amazon Web Services in Australia. We take reasonable steps to make sure overseas providers protect your information in a way that is comparable to the Privacy Act 2020.

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the website and restricted access to stored enquiries. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described above, or as the law requires, and then delete or anonymise it.

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong. You can ask us to stop sending marketing emails at any time. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We will respond within the time required by the Privacy Act 2020.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 through it. Bookings must be made by a person aged 18 or older, as set out in our Terms & Conditions.

Our website links to other sites, including our booking engine, Alla Prossima, Sa-Ni and social media platforms. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites, and encourage you to read their policies.

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated shown below.
